This book is set in the southern United States and is narrated through the perspective of  the protagonist, Hakeem. After his father is diagnosed with cancer, Hakeem's life is completely turned upside-down. Hakeem has to struggle to face all the diverse challenges that come with cancer. The character Savon also brings an admirable addition of mystery to this story.

The author created a realistic drama with the many different personalities in this book. Many of these personalities clash throughout the story to create a suspenseful atmosphere. A brilliant example is shown by the short snippet of the fight between Savon and Hakeem, on the back of the book. The mixed emotions in the story keeps this book particularly arousing. The author also uses foreshadowing in a enigmatic way that also make the story very appealing. I would recommend this book  to any adolescent that loves drama. This book would also be particularly inspiring to anyone who has a family member fighting cancer.
