Day of War was an extremely good book. Cliff Graham does a great job of developing his characters realistically. This book was written using stories and ideas from the Bible, and having read large portions of the Bible, particularly the sections where this story takes place, I find it very refreshing to see that the author has not strayed too far from the original, while adding new material that fits in very well. I also really appreciate the extra studies that Graham put into this novel.
WARNING! This is not a book that is easy to put down! It really made me think about how life might have been like way back in history. When soldiers used daggers and spears, instead of Bazookas and tanks.
War was slightly different back then, granted, people still died left and right, but it was more personal. You had to be close to someone to kill them, and I feel that the men that fought like that were some of the strongest men alive, to be able to cope with sliding a blade into another man's ribs. It took guts, and a strong stomach for that matter!
Day of War is the first of 5 novels in the Lion of War series, and they are all scheduled to be released as motion picture productions as well, so that is something to look forward to!
Great read for warrior-types, or just someone who likes a violent plot with surprisingly strong characters and a killer writing style!
