The King family moves from L.A. to a secluded small town. Xander, the 15-year-old son, is beyond disappointed. After a day of house searching, they find an old Victorian-style mansion and the family instantly falls in love.
But, as they start to settle, weird things begin to happen. Sounds coming from wrong directions, constant creaking and scratching from odd places, large footprints in the dust...
David and Xander soon discover a hallway that contains several mysterious doors that lead to "antechambers," as they call them. These send David and Xander into other worlds, from a gladiator ring in the midst of a slaughter, to a full blown World War II battle.  Xander starts to wonder whether this is a teen's biggest dream... or his biggest nightmare. Things go hay-wire when Mrs. King is kidnapped and dragged into one of the portals...

House of Dark Shadows is the first novel in a series of six. The characters are well developed, and you grow to love them very fast.  The way Robert Liparulo writes is very creepy at times, yet he relieves the reader with little bursts of humor amongst the family.  He also really knows how to captivate his audience, foreshadowing little things and hinting towards other things, and then blowing you away when he goes in a completely different direction!
An amazing concept, stellar writer, and one freaky house all add up to about three hundred pages of heart-racing, edge-of-your-seat thrills, suspense and chills.
Prepare yourselves for this one, it's a wild ride!
