Plot:

After returning from the hunger games, Katniss Everdeen finds herself in a conflict. Gale was not happy with her actions on t.v and has been ignoring her at every opportunity. Peeta felt betrayed by Katniss's rejection of him, and has also been ignoring her.

Now that Gale is old enough, he has started working in the mines from Monday- Saturday. Leaving only his Sunday's free where he hunts with Katniss in the forest.

Every year once the victor of the hunger games returns home, they must leave on a tour around all the districts. However on the tour Katniss feel uneasy and there is tension within the crowds of nearly each district. Finally troubles boil to the top  when a man in the crowd of district 11 gives a silent salute to Katniss.

Whilst home, just before departing on the tour, President Snow comes by her house in victor village. This causes unrest for Katniss and her family because President Snow threatened Katniss's life. If she cannot quell the crowds of each district by acting immensely happy, and in love with Peeta, then she fears something will happen to her family and friends.

It's nearing time for the quarter quell to be held. Every 25 years the hunger games change into a quarter quell. Contributing a unique twist for each anniversary. (For example, year 50 had to give twice as many tributes) Katniss feels very tense about the situation, and isn't looking forward to being a new tributes mentor.


Personal Response:

Catching Fire is a spectacular sequel leaving no fan of the series uninterested. It takes on a very different tone and, story as the threat of rebellion looms over every ones head. The suspense however, is still at it's finest reminding us all as to why we loved the first book so much to begin with. There wasn't much I could complain about in this book. Though it had a very predictable plot twist that you knew had to happen. It's true I enjoyed this book very much, but there wasn't much that particularly stood out to me. For example in the first book, I clearly remember Katniss dying of thirst, where as here I can't say something so significant happened. However, Catching Fire had an amazing ending. It managed to confirm your worst fears that may have been in the back of your mind the whole time, and was an amazing cliffhanger making me want to go out and by the next book the second I was done. Overall I was very pleased with this book, and will give it a 7/10
