The novel ''Between Shades of Gray'' by Ruta Spetys. At the beginning, Lina never knew her merry life was numbered. One night, The Soviet secret police came to her house with threatening eyes. Suddenly, her mom started to pack up the clothes and hastily started to break all the beautiful glasses she had made. In that moment Lina started to understand that those cheerful days were going to fade inside her.
The novel describes about a fifteen year young lady called Lina, whose passion was drawing, painting and anything related with art. She had lived in a blissful and peaceful life with her beautiful family in Lithuania. when the year 1941 came, suddenly the Soviet secret police came to knocked her door brutally. Lina's family were separated from her dad; deporting him to death in a prison camp while Lina, her mother and her younger brother were dismissed to Siberia. Lina draws with subliminal messages with the sole aim to send it to her father.
The narrator is the first person. I, personally loved the book. I highly recommend this book to people who enjoy reading historical events of WWII and tragic stories. This book taught many important morals, about wars, about fortitude, about selfishness, and about hope. This book realized me that people still have kindness and hope in wars. So far, this is my favorite book.
5/5
